Alissa Quart is Executive Editor of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. She is the author of five books of nonfiction, including Squeezed: Why Our Families Can’t Afford America, and the forthcoming Bootstrapped: Liberating Ourselves from the American Dream. Alissa also contributes journalism to The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The New York Review of Books, and many other publications. It was a great conversation about the stories we tell, the myths we need to dispel and the role of language in helping people overcome hardship.
